So…What is GIMP?

GIMP is a free graphics tool that can be used by both Windows and Mac users. Here are some of it’s features:

  • Simple graphic functions like those found in the Windows ‘Paint’ program
  • Photo retouching
  • Image file format conversion
  • Image layering
  • Animation

And because it is open source and designed to be expandable and extensible it means plug-ins can be installed to increase functionality.

How do I get Started with GIMP?

Obtaining a copy of GIMP is not as straight forward as you might think, and going to their download page http://www.gimp.org/downloads/ is rather confusing. Therefore, you may want to use these links instead:

Nothing. GIMP is a freely distributed software application.
